Discover Costa Rei

Beaches, nature and history…

Even though we’re in the Cagliari district, and more precisely under the municipality of Muravera, Costa Rei looks very much like a tropical paradise!

In 2009 Costa Rei beach was awarded by Lonely Planet as 5th most beautiful beach in the world. It stretches over 10 km: a long line of white sand and crystal-clear water which colours go from torquoise, to emerald, to vivid blue.

Cala Pira is another greatly appreciated beach: it is well-known for its thin and white sand with pink shades. Other beautiful beaches in the area are Cala Sinzias, Sant’Elmo, Santa Giusta, Cala Monte Turnu, Piscina Rei and Capo Ferrato.

Just 15 minutes away from Villasimius, this stunning coastline offers both free-access areas and fully equipped beach clubs with facilities and chiringuitos right on the sand.

For those who love diving, this area is also famous for its amazing sea bottom and for the fascinating Serpentara Marine Park and the nearby Protected Marine Area of Capo Carbonara, which animal and plant sealife are unique.

Costa Rei is the perfect place for sea and wild nature lovers.

The area is rich in natural beauties such as Island Serpentara and Island dei Cavoli (Cabbage Island), both easily reachable with a fun boat ride, and Colostrai Nature Reserve, where you’ll be able to watch the renowned pink flamingos.

However, Costa Rei’s charm goes beyond its heavenly beaches: this land has in fact a great history and many archaeological finds.

In the nearby of Piscina Rei there are 22 Menhirs dated back to about 5000 A.C.,  and in the area named “Cuili Piras” you can visit a megalithic structure of 53 Menihrs, a fascinating evidence of the people from the Stone Age and their rituals.

Close to Santa Giusta lies the famous Nuraghe “S’Omu e S’Orcu” (the ogre’s home), the biggest in the whole South-East area of Sardinia. The building is very close to the sea, on top of a small hill. It comprises a trilobed keep that goes all around the central tower and it is surrounded by a protection wall that lies about 10 meter far from the keep and encloses 5 towers and a courtyard. There also are remains of a nuragic village both inside and outside the wall.
